How can I know when God speaks?

Remember that each time God spoke to an individual they;

·         Knew it was God

·         Knew what God said

With that said they knew they had an encounter with God.

God will tell you up front what He wants you to know so that you can make the necessary adjustments in your life.

Please do not be one that lives this way saying ”Lord, I really want to know your will.  Stop me if I am wrong and bless me if I am right.” Or “Lord. I will proceed in this direction.  Close the door if it is not your will.”

If you want to hear from God you have to be willing to spend the time getting to know Him.  You need to, as we discussed last week, and that is to Love Him.  To be totally satisfied with having Nothing but God.  That means your car, house, spouse and on and on….

God has not set your life in motion and then sits back to watch, leaving it up to you to try and figure out the best direction according to your God-given mind.  For this thought would mean that Christians always think correctly.  This thought forgets that our old nature is constantly at battle with our new spiritual nature. Our ways are not the same as God’s.  You see only God can give you the kind of direction needed to accomplish His will.  Look at Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Isiah, Gideon, Peter, John, Paul, and Mary.  They all knew exactly what they were to do at that appropriate time and as they needed more direction He would give it to them.  It is His timing and not ours.  He knows best.

We can think “Well, why doesn’t He tell me everything at once so I could stop the wondering?”  Just think about this; If He told you that your child was going to die in 6 years in a car accident and after that He was going to use you as an advocate against texting while driving how do you think that would work out for you.  I think it would make you a basket case.  We are not mentally capable and emotionally able to know all God has planned for us.  We need to mature spiritually to understand His plans.  We are just babes.

But jsut because we are babes in our faith in no way means you should not be hearing from God.  In fact if you are not getting clear instruction from God then you need to pray and wait.  It is not always about the doing, for God is more interested in a relationship with you than what you can do for Him.  He maybe holding back so you will seek Him more?  Are you finding time in your day to pray, read scripture, spend time with your church family?

  God is working right where you are.  The fact that you are not seeing it is because you are not spending enough time with Him.

Amos 3:7

“Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.”

Is Your relationship with Him as close as He would like it to be?  Maybe the situation is you do not want it to be to close.  Maybe you feel un-worthy, You tell yourself I cannot get close to God because HE does not want to get close to me.

But “His Goal is to reveal Himself to people so as to draw them into this relationship.  He does not wait around to help us achieve our goals for Him.  He comes to accomplish His own goals through us – in His own ways.”

Our ways may seem good and we can accomplish things we think God wants for us to do.  BUT in doing so, God’s mighty power will not be revealed. So that means He will not be revealed.  To which we can conclude that since God was not revealed to others then it must not have been His plan!
So how do you know if God is speaking to you?
You will know if it is God who is speaking to you when;

·         He reveals Himself

·         He reveals His purpose and what He is about to do.

·         He reveals his ways and he wants me to have faith to believe He can do what he says.

But the reality of ever being in a very real and personal relationship with God and know without a doubt He has spoken to you will not happen until you can honestly say;

           “ If all I have is God I will be totally satisfied.  I do not need anything else in this world except Him.”

The first and greatest commandment “Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

God knows that it takes time to mature to such a level of obedience but the desire to have this type of relationship should never.   God sees your heart.   He knows you make mistakes and have to continue to grow spiritually, so do not let that get you down.  Spend time with Him.  He will reveal himself to you because that is what He wants to do.  HE wants a loving relationship with you.

Join Him today.  Spend time alone with Him today.  Have faith that whatever He shows you He is about to do that He will accomplish it.  Then be obey and make adjustments in your life so you can be apart of this great plan he has for you.
